| Pieces of the Sky by GJ Gillespie. |
About the work
A topographical abstraction built from layer upon layer of found papers, newspaper fragments, crossword puzzles, tissue, graphite and acrylic on canvas. Hundreds of small collaged squares in yellow, gray, black, and white create a cellular grid that reads at once as pixelated sky, aerial terrain, and urban map. I made it during a residency at the University of Washington’s Whiteley Center on San Juan Island.
